OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Automatic Mechanical Movement — Sellita SW200-1

Your watch is powered by the Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss-made self-winding mechanical movement. Unlike a quartz watch, it does not require a battery. Energy is stored mechanically in the mainspring and is generated either by the movement of the wrist or by manually winding the watch through the crown.

Please read the following instructions carefully before operating your watch.


1. CROWN POSITIONS

Depending on the configuration of the watch, the crown has up to three operating positions:

Position 0 — Normal / Winding Position
The crown is fully pushed against the case. In this position, the watch can be wound manually.

Position 1 — Date Setting Position
Pull the crown gently out to the first click. This position allows the date to be adjusted independently of the time.

Position 2 — Time Setting Position
Pull the crown out to the second click. In this position, the hour and minute hands can be adjusted. The seconds hand stops automatically, allowing precise synchronization.

For watches without a date display, the available crown positions may differ depending on the movement configuration.


2. STARTING THE WATCH

If the watch has stopped completely, it should be manually wound before being worn.

With the crown in Position 0, turn the crown clockwise approximately 20–30 times at a slow and regular pace.

The movement should begin running after a few turns of the crown.

After winding, the watch can be worn normally. The automatic winding system will continue to replenish the energy stored in the mainspring through the natural movement of the wrist.

A mechanical watch that has stopped should not be restarted simply by shaking it vigorously. Manual winding through the crown is the recommended method.


3. MANUAL WINDING

The Sellita SW200-1 can be manually wound whenever additional power is required.

Keep the crown fully pushed in Position 0 and rotate it clockwise.

Use gentle, regular movements and avoid excessive speed or force.

Because the SW200-1 is an automatic movement, its winding system incorporates a slipping mechanism designed to prevent the mainspring from being conventionally “overwound” when fully charged.

Nevertheless, there is no benefit in continuously winding the crown once sufficient power has been supplied.

For a stopped watch, approximately 20–30 clockwise turns are generally sufficient to start the movement and provide an initial reserve before wearing it.

For optimum operation, we recommend wearing the watch regularly after manual winding so that the automatic winding system can maintain its power reserve.


4. AUTOMATIC WINDING

During normal wear, the oscillating rotor inside the movement responds to the movement of the wrist and automatically winds the mainspring.

The amount of energy generated depends on the wearer's level of activity. A relatively inactive day may not provide enough movement to fully wind the watch.

This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

If the watch is worn only occasionally, or if daily activity is limited, occasional manual winding may be useful to maintain an adequate power reserve.


5. SETTING THE TIME

Pull the crown gently out to Position 2.

The seconds hand will stop. This function, known as hacking seconds, allows the watch to be synchronized precisely with a reference time.

Rotate the crown until the hour and minute hands indicate the desired time.

When setting the time, pay attention to whether the watch is displaying AM or PM, particularly on models equipped with a date indication.

To determine midnight, slowly advance the hands clockwise. When the date changes, the hands have passed approximately through midnight.

Continue turning the hands until the correct AM or PM time is reached.

Once the correct time has been set, push the crown completely back into Position 0. The seconds hand will restart.

For precise synchronization, the crown can be pushed back in when the reference time reaches the desired second.


6. SETTING THE DATE

Important: the following instructions apply only to watches equipped with a date display.

Pull the crown gently out to Position 1.

Rotate the crown in the appropriate direction to advance the date until the desired date appears in the window.

Once the date has been correctly set, push the crown fully back into Position 0.

IMPORTANT — DATE SETTING RESTRICTION

Do not use the quick-set date function when the watch indicates a time between approximately 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM.

During this period, the internal calendar mechanism may already be engaged in the automatic date-change process.

Attempting to manually quick-set the date while the mechanism is engaged may place excessive stress on the calendar components and could damage the movement.

If you are unsure whether the watch is displaying AM or PM, do not use the quick-set date immediately.

Instead:

  1. Pull the crown to the time-setting position.
  2. Advance the hands clockwise until the date changes.
  3. The date change identifies approximately midnight.
  4. Continue advancing the hands beyond the restricted calendar-setting period.
  5. Set the hands to approximately 6:00 AM.
  6. Push or pull the crown to the date-setting position.
  7. Set the required date.
  8. Return to the time-setting position and set the correct time, making sure to distinguish between AM and PM.
  9. Push the crown completely back into its normal position.

This procedure minimizes the risk of interfering with the calendar mechanism.


7. SETTING THE WATCH AFTER IT HAS COMPLETELY STOPPED

If the watch has stopped for an extended period, we recommend following this sequence:

1. Wind the movement
With the crown in Position 0, turn it clockwise approximately 20–30 times.

2. Establish AM/PM
Pull the crown to the time-setting position and slowly advance the hands clockwise until the date changes. This indicates midnight.

3. Move outside the calendar-change period
Continue advancing the hands until approximately 6:00 AM.

4. Set the date
Move the crown to the date-setting position and select the correct date.

5. Set the time
Pull the crown back to the time-setting position and advance the hands to the correct time, paying attention to AM and PM.

6. Restart the watch
Push the crown completely back into its normal position.

The watch is now correctly set and ready to wear.


8. END-OF-MONTH DATE CORRECTION

The standard date mechanism progresses sequentially from 1 to 31 and does not automatically distinguish between months containing 28, 29, 30 or 31 days.

At the end of a month containing fewer than 31 days, the date must therefore be corrected manually.

For example, after April 30, the watch may indicate 31 instead of 1. Once the hands are safely outside the calendar-change period, use the quick-set date function to advance the display to the 1st.


9. POWER RESERVE

When fully wound, the Sellita SW200-1 provides a power reserve of approximately 38–41 hours, depending on the movement configuration and operating conditions.

If the watch is removed from the wrist and remains stationary for longer than its available power reserve, it will stop.

This is completely normal for a mechanical watch.

Simply wind and reset the watch according to the instructions above before wearing it again.


10. NORMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A MECHANICAL WATCH

A mechanical movement consists of numerous interacting mechanical components and does not operate in exactly the same way as an electronic quartz movement.

Small variations in daily rate are therefore inherent to mechanical watchmaking.

The rate of the watch can also be influenced by factors including:

  • position of the watch;
  • level of winding;
  • temperature;
  • activity of the wearer;
  • magnetic fields;
  • shocks and impacts.

Minor variations in accuracy are therefore normal.


11. MAGNETIC FIELDS

Strong magnetic fields can affect the regulating components of a mechanical movement and may cause the watch to gain or lose time significantly.

Avoid placing the watch directly on or very close to strong magnets or magnetic devices.

If the watch suddenly begins gaining or losing substantially more time than usual, magnetization may be one possible cause. In this case, the watch should be inspected by an authorized service centre.


12. SHOCKS AND IMPACTS

Although the SW200-1 is designed for everyday use and incorporates shock protection, a mechanical movement contains small and highly precise components.

Avoid strong impacts, falls and violent shocks.

Sports or activities involving repeated heavy impacts may affect the movement's performance even when no external damage to the watch is visible.


13. OPERATING THE CROWN

Always operate the crown gently.

Never force the crown if unusual resistance is felt.

When changing between crown positions, pull or push the crown carefully and directly rather than applying excessive lateral pressure.

After setting or winding the watch, always make sure that the crown has been returned completely to its normal operating position.

If the watch is equipped with a screw-down crown, the crown must be correctly screwed back against the case after every adjustment in order to maintain the intended water-resistance protection.


14. WATER AND CROWN OPERATION

Never operate the crown while the watch is underwater or wet.

Do not pull out, adjust or wind the crown while the watch is exposed to water.

Before any contact with water, ensure that the crown is completely pushed in and, where applicable, correctly screwed down.

Water resistance is not a permanent characteristic and can be affected over time by ageing of the seals, impacts, temperature changes and normal wear.

Periodic inspection of the water-resistance system is recommended.


15. IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS

To ensure correct operation and help protect the movement:

  • Do not force the crown.
  • Do not use the quick-set date during the calendar-change period.
  • Do not shake the watch violently to start it.
  • Do not operate the crown underwater or while the watch is wet.
  • Avoid strong magnetic fields.
  • Avoid severe shocks and impacts.
  • Make sure the crown is fully returned to its normal position after every adjustment.
  • If unusual resistance is felt while setting the watch, stop operating the crown rather than applying additional force.
  • If the watch shows a sudden and substantial change in accuracy, have it inspected by a qualified watchmaker or authorized service centre.

16. CARE AND SERVICING

Like any precision mechanical instrument, an automatic watch requires periodic maintenance.

Lubricants, seals and other components are subject to natural ageing and wear. The appropriate service interval depends on the frequency of use, environmental conditions and the individual condition of the watch.

If you notice a significant deterioration in accuracy, reduced power reserve, difficulty operating the crown, unusual noises or any other abnormal behaviour, we recommend having the watch inspected by an authorized service centre.

Never attempt to open the case or service the movement yourself. Opening the watch outside an appropriately equipped environment may compromise its water resistance and allow dust or moisture to enter the case.
